Natasha Ryan, former teenage runaway whose disappearance in 1998 sparked years-long search, found dead in Rockhampton

Natasha Ryan, who was at the center of one of Australia’s most notable missing persons cases, was found dead by police in Rockhampton, central Queensland.

Ms Ryan gained notoriety when she disappeared as a teenager in August 1998.

Police believed she had become a victim of local serial killer Leonard John Fraser, who was charged with her murder.

She made international headlines in 2003 when, during Fraser’s murder trial, police received a tip that she was still alive.

Police raided the address and found Ms Ryan safe and sound, living with her adult boyfriend and hiding in a closet.

This morning, responding to a welfare call, police discovered Ms Ryan’s body at Rockhampton Golf Club at around 8am.

The 40-year-old man’s death is not considered suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
