18-wheeler fuel truck catches fire after crash on IH-45; The highway is expected to remain closed for hours

HOUSTON – An 18-wheeler fuel truck caught fire after being involved in a crash on IH-45 Saturday night, causing a major backup for drivers on the highway.

The fire was seen on Houston TranStar cameras between Parker and Tidwell.

According to Houston police, the 18-wheeler fuel truck was involved in an accident with at least one vehicle.

So far there is no news about injuries or fatalities.

KPRC 2 spoke with a viewer who said he witnessed what happened. According to the viewer, on her way home she noticed the huge clouds of smoke before seeing the fire.

He added that when he slowed down, it appeared that an 18-wheeler was on fire and spread across all lanes.

As of 10:40 p.m. Saturday, all main lanes of southbound IH-45 north remained closed. It is unclear when the highway can reopen.
