Sunshine and warm temperatures: is this the ideal forecast for summer in Canada?

We are entering the growing season with much wetter soil conditions than last year thanks to widespread rainfall during May, but prolonged periods of dry weather are expected at times during the summer.

An active storm track south of the U.S. border is expected to move north at times and bring powerful storms to parts of the region. This should help break up prolonged periods of dry weather and bring rainfall totals back to near normal for the season. However, wildfire smoke will continue to be a concern at times during the season.

A hot and humid summer is expected across the province, including the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa. This will increase the risk of prolonged heat waves, especially across southwestern Ontario, including Windsor and London. We will see periods of cooler weather during June, but the heat will increase during July and August and persist into September.

After a wet spring, we enter the summer well watered in most agricultural regions. However, as we enter the summer season, prolonged periods of dry weather are expected, especially in northern Ontario, with a high risk of fire and risk of poor air quality due to smog and smoke.

However, the heat will also help fuel powerful storms, with an increased risk of strong or severe storms at times.
