1 arrested after shooting on Florida Turnpike in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida. – A suspect was arrested Tuesday morning after a shooting on the Florida Turnpike in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed.

According to Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez, the shooting was reported at 11:53 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of the freeway near Southwest 257th Terrace.

Rodriguez said officers arrived at the scene and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound and a woman, who was not injured, inside the vehicle.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported the victim to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition.

“Preliminary information revealed that a known subject drove by the victim’s vehicle, shot him and fled the scene. The adult male was the only one injured,” Rodriguez said in an email to Local 10 News.

Police later confirmed that the suspect had been located at the Villa Capri Apartments, located in the 14400 block of Southwest 284th Street in Homestead.

The identity of the suspect has not yet been revealed nor the motive for the shooting.
