27 people shot in Akron, 1 man dead, several victims hospitalized

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – Akron Police are investigating a mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the area of ​​Kelly and 8th Avenue.

Officers responded to the area shortly after midnight after several people called 911 to report shots fired, affecting multiple victims.

As officers were en route to the scene, hospital staff reported that several people were arriving at emergency rooms with gunshot wounds.

According to police, a total of 27 people were shot and a 27-year-old man was killed.

The conditions of the other victims have not been disclosed.

A firearm and several dozen shell casings were recovered at the scene, police said.
