22-year-old woman dies after terrible accident on road in south Manchester

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Withington. Emergency services arrived at Mauldeth Road West, near Old Moat Park, at 11.52am on Friday (May 31) following reports of a collision.

Greater Manchester Police say the pedestrian, a 22-year-old woman, sadly died in hospital later that day as a result of her injuries. Two men, aged 18 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.




One has been released without further action and another has been released on bail while officers carry out further investigations. Investigations are ongoing and officers are urging witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Andrew Page, of GMP’s Serous Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with this young woman’s family at this tragic time. They are being supported by specially trained officers and we will continue to do everything we can to get answers for them.

“If you witnessed anything, or have any further information, we would appreciate it if you would come forward and help with our inquiries. “This could be an eyewitness account of the scene, doorbell footage, CCTV or dash cam footage.
