Michigan football depth chart projection after spring and transfer portal

Will Johnson might be the best cornerback in college football. He’s certainly a starter, but the position in front of him will be one of the most interesting battles of fall camp. Jyaire Hill is my best guess. He is 6-foot-2 and a former top-200 recruit.

Hill just needed a little seasoning and maturation. Aamir Hall will push him. Ricky Johnson will too and the good news is that if Hill isn’t ready, the Wolverines have veteran insurance. Depending on who wins the nickel spot, Ja’Den McBurrows could also be a factor for the No. 2 cornerback spot.

The four additions to the transfer portal (two at cornerback and two at safety) give Michigan football the depth to allow Zeke Berry and McBurrows to battle for the nickel spot.

McBurrows wasn’t completely healthy this spring. So Berry might have the advantage on her now, but he’ll need to keep her in fall camp. However, Nickel feels like her best position. She shined in the spring game and if he can hold down that spot, McBurrows could add even more depth at cornerback.

Both guys could also be seen making nickel plays depending on the opponent. Maybe some weeks Michigan prefers Berry and other weeks McBurrows. He could even change from one game to another.
