Hot, muggy Sunday in North Texas with spotty storms

NORTH TEXAS — We started off dry with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures close to 70 degrees. Temperatures today will climb into the upper 80s under partly sunny skies and will feel like temperatures in the upper 90s.

Remember your heat safety precautions, you’ll need them for the next week.

Spotty storms are possible this afternoon, but most of us will remain dry. Any storm that develops could become severe with large hail, damaging winds and localized flooding.

The greatest severe threat today is focused on West Texas, where storms are expected to develop tonight and head east.

The storms are expected to weaken as they approach the I-35 corridor and enter a more stable environment. But if they don’t weaken, prepare for large hail, damaging winds and localized flooding as the storms move into the early morning hours Monday.

Most of the overnight activity will end around mid-morning, but spotty storms are possible for the rest of Monday.

There is a chance they could become severe, with large hail, winds and flooding once again being the main concerns.

Daytime heating may produce some afternoon storms on Tuesday and Wednesday, but overall we are drying out by midweek. Unfortunately, that means our temperatures are warming up and we’re back into the mid 90s with temperatures in the triple digits.
