Swarm of bees causes temporary closure of Manhattan Beach pier

A large swarm of bees forced police to clear the Manhattan Beach pier on Saturday.

The bees were reported to Manhattan Beach Police Department officers around 4 p.m., according to an officer who spoke with KCAL News.

To allow the bees to leave the area on their own, police blocked the dock to the public.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

It is not yet clear how long the pier will be closed.

Around 10:30 p.m., city officials said the dock was still closed while they waited for help from a bee removal company.

This is a developing story. Please check back for more details.
