Women’s rowing concludes day two of NCAA championships

BETHEL, Ohio. – The Jacksonville women’s rowing team completed the semifinal portion of the NCAA Championships Saturday morning.

With crystal clear water and partly cloudy skies, the weather during the second day of competition made for honest competition. The afternoon rain forecast sped up each start time by four minutes as the NCAA tries to wrap up ahead of storms forecast to arrive later today.

“Proud of our effort today,” the head coach said. mike lane. “Although our results weren’t what we wanted, we are in a great situation heading into the grand final tomorrow. We really are the small engine and we want all of our boats to beat someone today. I know we can!”

The Dolphins Varsity Eight began with a start time of 8:12, competing against boats from Indiana, Duke, Northeastern and Rhode Island. All five opponents moved ahead in open water, and a late push by JU was not enough to escape fifth place. Jacksonville finished with a time of 6:48.248.

JU’s Second Varsity Eight rowed 32 minutes later in a field with Rutgers, Syracuse, Boston and SMU. As in the 1v8, the other boats finished ahead respectively, and JU’s time of 7:07.766 was good for fifth place.

To round out the morning, Jacksonville’s Varsity Four competed against Ohio State, Indiana, Boston and SMU at 9:24. The Dolphins were competing for third place for much of the race and were in fourth place for much of the end. However, a late surge by SMU was enough to get the Mustangs over the finish line before JU, and their time of 7:53.714 saw them finish in fifth place as well.

All three Dolphins boats will compete in their respective ‘4’ finals tomorrow morning. Both JU’s 1v4 and 2v8 will compete against boats from SMU, Rhode Island and Northeastern. The Dolphins Varsity Eight will compete against Boston, Rhode Island and SMU.
