Gang escapes on bicycle moments after man is shot in the leg

A gang dressed in black fled on bicycles after a man was shot in the leg. Police say the victim, in his 30s, went to the hospital himself to receive treatment for a leg injury.

He is in serious but stable condition after the incident. Merseyside Police say the man was shot on Ormonde Crescent, in Kirkby, at around 9pm yesterday (June 1).




The incident has been described by police as a “targeted attack”, the Liverpool Echo reports. The agents remain at the scene.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, with CCTV and witness interviews underway. A force spokesman said a group of men, riding bicycles and wearing black clothing, had been on Ormonde Crescent in the minutes before the shooting.

They subsequently fled the scene towards Mintor Road and then towards Simonswood Lane. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information about what happened is asked to contact Merseyside Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rannard, of Merseyside Police, said: “Although we are in the early stages of the investigation as we try to establish why the incident occurred and who was involved, we believe it was a targeted attack. Fortunately, the man’s injuries They are not life-threatening, but I understand that this is a shocking incident for the local community and it is understandable that they are concerned about what happened tonight.

“We have a large police presence in the area not only to carry out the initial stages of the investigation but also to provide reassurance to the community. We are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 8.30pm and 9pm and witnessed the incident, please contact Merseyside Police. Similarly, if you saw a group of men in the area cycling at this time, please report it to us again.
