NYT Connections Today: Tips & Answers for Sunday, June 2 (Game #357)

Sunday’s Connections are perhaps a little easier than Saturday’s, although it’s all relative, of course. At least I didn’t have any problems, which is a good change. If you do, you’ll find some tips below.

My rating: Easy
My score: Perfect

A much simpler Connections puzzle from today’s NYT. At first I was a little distracted by the presence of LEMMINGS, SHEEP, and BUFFALO, and thought maybe it was something about animals, although I have no idea what the connection between lemmings and buffalo might be. Then I thought some more and realized that the presence of FOLLOWERS and PUPPETS could be added to LEMMINGS and SHEEP to make CONFORMISTS.

For the second group I almost went with a social media angle: SHARE and LIKE. But again, I rethought it and changed LIKES to STOCKS, OPTIONS and CAPITAL. As is often the case, the third was much more difficult. But BUFFALO and PHOENIX are obvious US cities (even for someone in the UK like me), and I had also heard of BILLINGS and MOBILE, so I was able to work out the US CITIES group. No, I didn’t know what the answer was to the fourth set, but by then it didn’t matter.

What are NYT connections?

NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.

On the plus side, you don’t technically need to solve the final question since you’ll be able to answer it through a process of elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little breathing room.

However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, be careful with homophones and other puns that could disguise answers.
