Florida Tech Varsity 4+ makes program history by placing third at IRA National Championship

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the first time in program history, the Varsity 4+ Men’s Rowing team placed on the podium at the IRA National Championships and took home the bronze medal.

The Panthers faced some tough teams in Saturday’s grand final, taking on Washington, Dartmouth, Colgate, California and Brown.

Off the line, the crews were evenly matched until the 500 meter mark, when Washington pulled ahead of the rest of the crews and continued to increase his lead.

Tech and Dartmouth were goal to goal for the next 500 meters. At the 1,000-meter mark, Dartmouth moved forward while Tech’s bow ball was sitting on Dartmouth’s three seats.

The standings remained the same for the rest of the race, with Washington taking first place (6.15.019), Dartmouth finishing second (6.17.432) and Tech crossing the line third (6.19.146) to earn a spot on the podium .

The Panthers held off teams from Colgate (6:22.286), California (6:22.356) and Brown (6:25.976).
