Florida AD Scott Stricklin addresses Jacksonville stadium renovation plans

Jacksonville’s TIAA Bank Field is scheduled to undergo a $1.4 billion renovation in the near future, which will have major ramifications for the world’s largest annual outdoor cocktail party between the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs.

During the Southeastern Conference spring meetings this week, UF athletic director Scott Stricklin addressed the renewal, which will begin after the 2025 NFL season concludes. Construction is expected to last more than two years.

Stricklin referred to the schedule, which has a start date quickly approaching.

“Probably after the city and the NFL and everyone approve exactly what’s happening in Jacksonville with their stadium, it will be a good time for us (to make a decision),” Stricklin begins.

“We have had some conversations. We have a general idea of the direction it could take. That would be the timeline. I think it will be at the end of this summer. When the city formally approves the stadium work there in Jacksonville and then the NFL (also approves it).”

There’s also a chance the Jacksonville Jaguars could play inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in 2027. But the UF-UGA game was at the forefront of the discussion.

“We will look at all options,” Stricklin offered. “Home and home is a choice.”
