13 road closures scheduled this week in Michigan

Construction workers have another busy week on Michigan’s busy highways as the calendar turns to June.

The state Department of Transportation (MDOT) has about 90 highway projects scheduled to close lanes, ramps and entire segments of major highways between Sunday, June 2 and Saturday, June 8. These are in addition to ongoing projects transferred from previous weeks. .

Drivers should plan for possible traffic slowdowns, especially during rush hour, on highways such as US 31 in Antrim and Grand Traverse counties, US 23 in Monroe and Washtenaw counties, US 131 in Kent County and I-96 in Ingham and Livingston counties.

Below is a summary of 13 closures to watch out for this week. All projects depend on the weather. State officials remind drivers to slow down and follow posted signs in work zones.

US 31 in Antrim and Grand Traverse counties

Starting Monday, US 31 between Brackett Road and Campbell Road will have scheduled weekday lane closures for the next month. The closures will move to include the left and right lanes at different times.

US 31 in Oceana County

The southbound left lane of US 31 around Monroe Road near Pentwater Lake will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday through the weekend. The right lane has been closed for the past week, but is scheduled to reopen Monday morning.

US 23 in Monroe and Washtenaw counties

One northbound lane of US 23 between Allen Road and Milan Oakville Road will be closed beginning Monday morning. The single lane closure in the Milan area is scheduled to continue until June 22.

The highway will remain reduced to one lane in each direction between Saline River and Carpenter Road until early July. Additionally, the County Street bridge over the freeway will remain closed through June, with traffic detoured along Sanford Road, E. Main Street and Dexter Road.

Northbound US 23 will also have one lane around I-94 closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

US 131 in Kent County

Northbound US 131 between the Kent/Allegan county line and 76th Street will have one lane closed this week. It will be a daily closure from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday, and then again from 8pm Friday to 6pm Sunday.

The south side continues with two lanes closed between 68th Street and 108th Street. However, that closure is scheduled to end at 6 pm on Friday.

M-63 in Berrien County

Southbound Niles Avenue (M-63) between Wyndwicke Drive and M-139 will have one lane closed for work permits beginning Monday morning. There will be a daily single lane closure from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday until June 24.

South of that closure, M-139 remains closed in both directions between Marquette Woods Road and Scottsdale Road. The total closure in Scottdale will remain in place until August.

M-25 in Bay County

Veterans Memorial Bridge (M-25) will have its eastbound lanes closed between Vets Bridge and Madison Avenue in Bay City beginning Monday morning and continuing for nearly three weeks until June 23.

M-1 in Wayne County

Construction on Woodward Avenue continues this week with single lane closures taking place on Monday.

Three southbound lanes and two northbound lanes of Woodward will be closed between 7 Mile Road and McNichols Road until next week. One lane will remain closed intermittently until early August.

Both directions of the road will also have single lane closures from Owens/Clairmount Street to Trowbridge/Calvert Street daily from 9am to 3pm until August 2.

Additionally, southbound Woodward from Florence Street to Louise Street will have one lane closed with a lane change from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through June 10.

I-96 in Kent County

The eastbound freeway between Alpine Avenue (M-37) and West River Drive will have its left lane closed from 9 a.m. Monday until 3 p.m. Friday. Expect traffic jams on both I-96 and nearby US 131.

I-94 in Wayne County

Eastbound I-94 will have its right lane closed between Ecorse Road and Beech Daly Road for a few hours on Monday. The planned closure is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The stretch of freeway between Lonyo Street and Livernois Avenue in Detroit will also have two lanes closed from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Additionally, exit ramps from eastbound I-94 to I-75 will be closed Friday through Sunday.

I-75 in Oakland County

Southbound I-75 between Big Beaver Road and M-150 (Rochester Road) will have two lanes closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday through June 16. There are also ongoing intermittent shoulder closures to watch out for in the area.

M-24 in Tuscola County

Both directions of M-24 will have one lane closed between Clifford Road and Lobdell Road starting Tuesday. The Mayville area closure is for maintenance and will conclude Saturday night.

I-96 in Ingham County

Daily closures are scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for westbound I-96 between Washington Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Lansing. Single lane closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. During those times, the westbound I-96 exit ramp to Martin Luther King Jr. will also be closed.

I-96 in Livingston County

Two lanes of westbound I-96 will be closed over the weekend between D 19 and M-59. The closure begins around 8 pm on Friday and continues until 6 am on Monday. The exit ramp to Highland Road will also be closed during that time.
