Former Northwestern Business College in Oak Lawn closes after 122 years – NBC Chicago

Northwestern College, a century-old college in south suburban Oak Lawn and formerly known as Northwestern Business College, permanently closed its doors Saturday, according to a notice posted on its website.

The message about the abrupt closure said the “difficult decision” to cease operations was made by the university administration “after careful analysis of its current and projected fiscal position.”

“Northwestern College has provided highly qualified professionals to the Chicago area for more than 122 years, and while we are saddened by the need to end our educational mission, we will uphold our legacy in the thousands of graduates who have been a part of our history,” the message reads in part.

Northwestern College said students will be able to complete their programs at other higher education institutions, depending on their degree. The institutions include Prairie State College, Moraine Valley Community College, Chamberlain University and Malcolm X College.

Each school will have information on its website about its policy on transferring credits earned at other higher education institutions, the university said. The for-profit academic institution was founded in 1902 with the goal of “providing individuals with the specialized training necessary for a successful career in business,” according to its website.
