A driver has died after a horrific crash between a pickup truck and a truck caused both vehicles to veer off the road.

Emergency services received reports of a crash between two cars on the Mid-Western Highway at Carcoar, southwest of Bathurst in New South Wales, at about 1.25pm on Monday.

A man in his 60s who was driving a pickup truck with a trailer attached to the back was found dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of a Pantech truck, which was towing a horse-drawn float, was unhurt in the accident, while two passengers, a boy and a girl, suffered minor injuries.

The Mid-Western Highway has been closed to heavy vehicles between Mandurama and Blayney as police launch an investigation into the collision.

While light vehicles are still permitted, drivers are urged to allow extra travel time as detours and hazardous road conditions remain.

The police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage relating to the crash is urged to contact police.
