INDIANAPOLIS — The newly crowned Miss Indiana Teen 2024 is trying to use her position to raise awareness for a good cause.

Bella Bauer, 18, launched “The Purple Project” to raise awareness about epilepsy.

Bauer was diagnosed with epilepsy in fifth grade.

She said having her first generalized seizure in front of her classmates was a life-changing experience. And now, she has taken her mission to the Indiana State Capitol in an effort to help craft a new law that aims to ensure seizure first aid is implemented in all Indiana schools.

“Currently, there is no law in the state of Indiana that protects children if they have a seizure at school,” Bauer said. “Teachers and staff are not required to undergo any type of training regarding seizures and safety, and I am advocating for that to be changed.”

Bauer will attend Purdue University in the fall. She has already made the school’s dance team and plans to study physical therapy.
