Investigation continues into massive sinkhole in Alton, Illinois

A park in Alton, Illinois, remains closed with no reopening date, more than 10 days after a giant sinkhole opened in the middle of a football field.

Images captured by 618 Drone Service on July 6 show the progression of the sinkhole.

The sinkhole, which formed at Gordon Moore Park on June 26, was the result of a mine collapse, park officials said.

No one was in the field at the time of the collapse, Alton Mayor David Goins told local media.

The park remained closed and mining operations halted, pending an ongoing investigation into the cause led by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.Mental health status), city officials said in a statement on July 5.
