Funeral today for NYPD officer killed in Long Island nail salon crash

NEW HYDE PARK, NEW YORK – A funeral will be held on Saturday for New York police officer Emilia Rennhack.

Rennhack, 30, was killed when An SUV crashed into a nail salon in Deer Park, Long Island June 28th.

The funeral will be held at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home on Lakewood Road.

“She wanted our city to be a safe place for others to pursue that same dream. This is a tragic accident,” said Mayor Eric Adams.

“It’s a sad day for all law enforcement officers. Emilia was one of our beloved officers from the 102nd Precinct. She dealt with domestic violence in the precinct and went above and beyond for the community, for everyone. We will miss her,” Caban said.

Rennhack’s husband is a detective who worked at the same police station. The two recently married.

Further charges are expected against the driver.

Prosecutors have charged Steven Schwally, 64, with drunk driving in the fatal crash. More severe charges are expected to be announced.

Schwally told responding officers that he had drunk 18 beers the night before the crash, according to police. He has a prior DUI conviction from 10 years ago and is currently being held on $1 million bail.
