Decomposing body found in abandoned house

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office discovered a decomposing body at an abandoned home in the 2100 block of Myra Street Wednesday afternoon.

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Autopsies can help forensic scientists make a number of determinations about dead bodies. Forensic anthropology is used when there are only skeletal remains of a body to examine.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said both procedures will be used on the badly decomposed remains found around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26 of this year, in a home that had “been abandoned for an extremely long time.”

Investigators say the remains were found in the corner of a room at the home in the 2100 block of Myra Street, and they believe they may be those of a homeless person who was living there. They described the remains as skeletal, and the sheriff’s office hopes forensic testing will determine at least the age and sex of the victim.
