FLORENCE, Ky. (WXIX) – Four people and one suspect are dead following a mass shooting early Saturday morning in Florence, according to the Florence Police Department.

Officers were called to a home on Ridgecrest Drive shortly before 3 a.m. for multiple calls about an “active shooter,” police said.

Seven people were found at the scene with gunshot wounds, the department said.

According to Florence police, four of the seven were pronounced dead at the scene on Ridgecrest Drive. The other three victims remain at UC Hospital.

The only suspected shooter fled the scene, but police say he was spotted near Farmview Drive and US-42.

A chase ensued that ended on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a ditch.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth, where he died, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
