Jay Slater missing – breaking news: Friend calls out ‘drug mule’ conspiracy theories as new photo of teen shared

Exploring the isolated Tenerife landscape of Jay Slater’s last known location

Jay Slater’s friend has condemned online conspiracy theories accusing them of being “drug mules” after a new photo of the missing teenager was shared.

Brad Hargreaves, who was on holiday with Jay at the time he disappeared, has responded to online trolls almost three weeks after the 19-year-old went missing.

“To think I’m involved in all of this is beyond me,” she wrote on her Instagram story. “We’ve been friends for years, we went on holiday together for the first time and sadly this has happened.

“We are not drug mules or anything like that… people need to know the facts before they talk nonsense on the internet…”

This comes as Jay’s other friend Lucy Law shared a new photo of the two on her Instagram with a crying emoji and a heart.

She was the last person to speak to Jay when he called her around 8:50 a.m. to tell her he was lost, needed a glass of water, and that his phone had one percent battery left.

They had attended the NRG music festival in the Canary Islands on Sunday, June 16, before Jay returned to an AirBnb about an hour’s drive away where she was staying with two men she had met.

Jay Slater may still be alive thanks to ‘rainwater and plants’, private investigator suggests

A private investigator has urged Jay Slater’s family to “not give up hope” as he suggests he could still be alive drinking “rainwater” and eating “plants”.

Juan Garcia, an Army reservist and private investigator, says he has been in touch with Jay Slater’s family and told The Times: “Two weeks is too early to end the search.

“(Slater) could be alive somewhere – someone could be drinking rainwater and eating plants. The family must not lose hope.”

Jay knew men whose AirBnb he returned to “through friends”

The man whose AirBnb Jay Slater visited before he disappeared said they knew each other through friends.

Ayub Qassim is believed to be one of two men who invited Jay Slater back to his holiday accommodation in Masca in the early hours of Monday morning.

Jay left the Airbnb at around 8am but, after missing the bus back to his accommodation in Playa de Las Americas, attempted an 11-hour journey through the remote and challenging terrain of the Teno Rural Park.

Mr Qassim said Jay left the house “alive” and said he knew him “through friends”.

“I know Jay through friends, I’m not going to bring someone over to my house if I don’t know them,” she told the MailOnline. “I don’t know if he had issues with anyone else because I don’t know him that well, I only know him through friends.”

She added: “Jay, he’s a great guy. He doesn’t have any problems with me, I don’t have any problems with him or his friends. We just talked to each other and it was all very nice.”

Friends told Jay Slater to ‘go back to Airbnb’ before he disappeared

A television detective investigating the disappearance of Jay Slater said the teenager’s friends told him to return to an AirBnB where he had stayed the night before he vanished.

Mark Williams-Thomas, who also investigated the disappearance of Nicola Bulley, has been helping Jay’s family search for the 19-year-old in Tenerife.

Jay apparently left the Veronica party area in the south of the island in the early hours of Monday morning with two men he had met, before embarking on an hour-long drive to

They travelled an hour by car back to their holiday accommodation in Masca, which Jay left several hours later and, having missed the bus, attempted to walk 11 hours back to his own accommodation.

Mr Williams-Thomas highlighted Jay’s unusual decision to undertake the hike through challenging terrain rather than return to the AirBnb.

He said: “They told him to go back to the rental place. He said he couldn’t do it and that he had already walked 30 minutes and was now off the road and walking on a path, where there were loose stones.”

Jay Slater’s family will be able to use their own search teams, reports say

Spanish authorities have reportedly given permission for Jay Slater’s family to use their own search teams as the investigation into his disappearance approaches three weeks.

Police called off their search for Slater last Sunday after spending 13 days looking for the 19-year-old.

The investigation is ongoing and Jay’s family have vowed to stay on the island to continue the search. They have raised more than £50,000 through GoFundMe and have said they want to use the money to pay specialist search teams.

The Civil Guard has now told Sky News that search teams can go and help “without any problem” but they must notify the authorities for “good management of information and resources.”

They said they have not received any applications yet.
