MIAMI (AP) — Drew Thorpe pitched 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball, Nicky Lopez had two doubles and drove in two runs, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Friday night.

Luis Robert Jr. had two hits, two walks and two stolen bases for the White Sox, who won their first road series opener this season. They were 0-14 entering Friday.

The Marlins lost their fifth straight game and fell to a National League-worst 30-58 mark.

Making his fifth major league start, Thorpe (3-1) pitched into the seventh inning for the first time since being called up from the minors on June 11. The rookie scattered three hits, walked two and struck out five.

The White Sox quickly struck out against Marlins starter Bryan Hoeing with Lopez’s RBI double in the second.

Martin Maldonado’s RBI double off reliever Roddery Munoz in the fourth made it 2-0 before Lopez hit another RBI double in the fifth.

John Brebbia relieved Thorpe after Dane Myers’ double with one out in the seventh inning and allowed an RBI single to Xavier Edwards. Miami loaded the bases against Brebbia with two outs when center fielder Robert caught Bryan De La Cruz’s drive at the wall to end the threat.

The Marlins rallied against closer Michael Kopech in the ninth. Vidal Brujan reached base on a fielder’s choice, advanced to third on Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s two-out single and scored on De La Cruz’s single. But Kopech retired Josh Bell on a groundout for his eighth save.

Hoeing (0-1), recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, allowed one run, five hits and struck out four in three innings.
