Man dies in fireworks accident; CFD battles fire near illegal display

A man was killed on North Kostner Avenue in Belmont Gardens in a fireworks accident on July 4, and Chicago fire crews battled a large blaze.

CHICAGO (WLS) — A man has died on the city’s Northwest Side and Chicago firefighters have been battling blazes likely caused by the use of illegal fireworks on the Fourth of July.

A 34-year-old man was injured while handling fireworks at 10 p.m. Thursday in the 3000 block of North Kostner Avenue in Belmont Gardens, and died at the scene, Chicago police said.

Detectives from Area Five are investigating.

And Chicago firefighters have been dealing with a series of fires apparently linked to fireworks.

A video from Englewood shows multiple fires on the street, likely started by people setting off fireworks.

Another video shows firefighters battling a large house fire in the 6000 block of West Honore Street.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.
