FOUNTAIN, Colo. — Investigators have retreated, but we remain in contact and are still trying to figure out what happened.

Let’s break down what we know so far:

  • The Fountain Police Department tweeted
  • Last night, shortly after 10:30 p.m.
  • An El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputy on patrol noticed a problem.
  • He saw a woman lying on the street.
  • Firefighters and police arrived and began taking life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.
  • People in the area told officers they believed he had been shot.
  • The Fountain Police Department says it was determined she was not shot or hit by a car.
  • The cause of death is still under investigation.
