A fireworks tent worker was shot when he tried to stop a robbery, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A man in his 60s working at a fireworks tent near St. Augustine Road was shot Thursday night when he tried to stop a robbery, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Officers were called to a shooting at Dupont Avenue and St. Augustine Road around 11 p.m. Thursday. They found the man with a gunshot wound to the torso.

He was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators said they learned the man confronted a robber while working at the fireworks tent and “a gun was discharged.”

The robber grabbed the cash register and fled the scene.

Another employee who was there at the time was unharmed.

Police said they did not have a description of the suspect.
