Michigan Aquarium introduces new shark to celebrate ‘Shark Week’

Nessie, the new horn shark at SEA LIFE Aquarium in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

AUBURN HILLS, MI – This little guy may look cute and innocent, but don’t let his size fool you. He has a powerful bite. Meet Nessie, the newest shark at SEA LIFE Aquarium in Auburn Hills in metro Detroit.

Nessie is a horn shark. This type of shark has the greatest bite force relative to its size of any shark.

To celebrate Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” (July 7-14), Nessie was introduced to the world and is now part of SEA LIFE’s Stingray Bay. Nessie is the eighth shark species at SEA LIFE, including Florence, her 6-foot nurse shark.

The Aquarium will host its own “Shark Days” from Friday, July 6 through July 14, featuring shark talks, special activities and behind-the-scenes tours showing how staff feed and care for the sharks. Tickets can be purchased here.
