LOS ANGELES (KABC) — “Machete” star Danny Trejo was involved in a fight that broke out at the Sunland-Tujunga Independence Day Parade.

The incident began when someone allegedly threw a water balloon at the classic convertible Trejo was riding in. That’s when things got complicated.

A video posted on social media shows the 80-year-old actor confronting a man on the road, presumably the person he thought had thrown the water balloon. That footage appears to show Trejo throwing a punch at the man and the man fighting back. The man’s punch doesn’t connect, but a struggle ensues and Trejo falls to the ground.

The man who hit Trejo then punches another man in the face and knocks him to the ground.

A larger altercation breaks out, but bystanders quickly stop it and manage to calm the situation.

At one point during the fight, Trejo grabs a folding chair and then throws it.

A video of the moment after the incident shows Trejo arguing with a woman who appears to be holding him back.

A witness said he immediately pulled out his cellphone and captured the heated moments, which reportedly lasted nearly 10 minutes before police showed up.

“This parade is like a water balloon throwing activity,” said witness Stanley Herrarte.

“The reason Danny was so angry was because people don’t normally throw water balloons at fancy cars when they drive by,” he added.

Eyewitness News has reached out to representatives for Trejo and parade organizers for comment.

Trejo has made a career in Hollywood playing tough guys and villains. He is perhaps most closely identified with the character Machete from several Robert Rodriguez films.

In recent years it has also expanded into the food business.
