When the deputy attempted to stop a black BMW on Bearss Avenue near Nebraska Avenue shortly after midnight, the suspect accelerated to flee the traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said.

Hall attempted to stop the suspect a second time on Plantation Oaks Drive around 12:30 a.m.

Upon exiting his vehicle, the suspect crashed into it and drove away from the scene.

The officer was transported to Tampa General Hospital, HCSO said.

The suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned about a mile from the second stop. Detectives have identified the owner of the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 813-247-8200.

“To see this suspect show no regard for our deputy’s life and deliberately run him over with his car is terrifying,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “The entire Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is here to support Deputy Hall and will do everything we can to support him and his family.”
