Metso has received orders for the delivery of grinding equipment for South32’s Hermosa project in the Patagonia Mountains of southern Arizona. The order is recorded in the Minerals segment’s second quarter 2024 order intake.

Metso’s scope of supply includes a PremierMT. Primary autogenous grinding mill (AG) and Vertimill® VTM-4500 secondary grinding mill with potential to supply other comminution and beneficiation process equipment technologies.

“Metso’s wide range of grinding technologies offers the best tool for the job. In this case, primary grinding using an AG mill eliminates the use of steel media and the Vertimill in secondary grinding and regrind improves energy efficiency and reduces steel media consumption. This is a truly positive combination for the planet,” said Christoph Hoetzel, Senior Vice President Grinding at Metso.

“We are very pleased to support South32 in its development strategy to supply critical minerals such as zinc and manganese in the US. We are committed to supporting South32 in this endeavour with our Planet Positive offering and our great service group in Arizona,” added Tim Robinson, Vice President of Minerals Sales in North and Central America (NCA) at Metso.
