Sean “Diddy” Combs is the subject of an ongoing federal criminal investigation, according to NBC News, which cited two sources familiar with Combs’ current legal troubles.

The same sources confirmed that a federal grand jury in the Southern District of New York is examining evidence as part of the investigation. No details have been leaked about what is being examined.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment. Combs’ attorneys did not respond to a request for comment.

Deadline The investigation has also confirmed this.

“This is the next step in the process for Mr. Combs as the investigation continues,” an official with knowledge of grand jury proceedings told police. Deadline This afternoon, the official also confirmed that Sean Combs and his attorneys were formally notified of the grand jury last week, as NBC reported.

NBC defined Combs’ status as a subject of an investigation as “someone who is within the scope of a criminal investigation, according to legal experts. A person is designated as a target when it is likely that prosecutors intend to seek a grand jury indictment against that person.”

There is no indication that anything is imminent, NBC reported, adding that Combs has not received a target letter, the sources said. The Southern District of New York is not required to send one.

The news comes three months after Combs’ homes were raided by law enforcement in Los Angeles and Miami.

Combs has been in the spotlight for at least the past seven months. Several women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault, and in May a video surfaced, obtained by CNN, showing him beating his then-girlfriend, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura, at a Los Angeles hotel in 2016.

Combs settled a federal lawsuit filed by Ventura last November. The two reached an agreement the day after the lawsuit was filed.

Combs was also stripped of his honors by Howard University and Hulu dropped a reality TV project. He also shed his stake in his former company, Revolt.
