INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Women & Hi Tech, an organization dedicated to empowering women in STEM fields across Indiana, has joined Life.StyleFounded with the mission of bridging gender gaps in STEM professions, .Live! has become a vital platform connecting women professionals, students, and community members in pursuit of equal opportunities.

“Women & Hi Tech exists to change the landscape of women represented in STEM to be equally inclusive for all,” explained Heidi Melton, Director of Corporate Engagement. “Our members and sponsors span diverse STEM disciplines, including life sciences, engineering, psychology, and information technology.”

Their mission is central to empowering women through various initiatives such as mentoring programs, scholarships and networking events. “We have many different programs where we can be mentors,” Melton said. “We pair STEM professionals with our members to share knowledge about professional life and leadership.”

Kayci Spandau, director of signature events, explained the organization’s upcoming signature event, the Leading Light Scholarship and Awards Gala, scheduled for October 3, 2024, at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis. “During this gala, we will recognize 10 outstanding individuals in the STEM industry,” Spandau said. “These individuals are mentors, risk-takers, and advocates for diversity and equity. We are also proud to announce that we will be awarding scholarships and career grants worth $55,000.”

The scholarships and grants, open to undergraduate, graduate and professional students, cover a broad spectrum of disciplines and are designed to support educational and professional advancement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. “We partner with organizations like the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana to offer specific scholarships,” Spandau explained. “For example, if you’re a Girl Scout pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an Indiana university, there’s a scholarship that’s just right for you.”

In addition to its main events, Women & Hi Tech remains actively engaged throughout the year with various networking opportunities and educational initiatives. “We have a networking event scheduled for July and are also hosting a STEM week for K-12 students,” Melton added. “Our website, womeninhtech.org, serves as a gateway for anyone who wants to learn more about our organization, get involved, or seek mentoring opportunities.”

Women & Hi Tech is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is encouraging women interested in STEM to apply for its scholarship.
