JJ Redick News: How Coach K Helped Him Become LA’s Coach and the Weirdest Tar Heel I Can Remember Made a Remarkable Prediction

Since JJ Redick took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, there has been a lot of news about the rookie coach. Below are some highlights.

First, he talks here about how his Duke coach, Mike Krzyzewski, had an impact on his major career turnaround, saying this:

“Since 2004, Coach has had a great relationship with the Lakers and the Buss family. He was very complimentary of the organization. Honestly, he was very helpful throughout the entire process… Coach was very helpful throughout the entire process, whether it was in terms of how I approached the interview process, the communication between Rob (Pelinka) and I, all of that. Coach was great… There’s one person in my life who played for that team that I call Coach, and that’s Coach K. For me, that’s still the case.”

Obviously, that’s not a huge surprise. Coach K helped Redick build an epic career at Duke and beyond, and he’s had a huge impact on all of his former players.

This is a bit of a surprise: Rashad McCants got one thing right.

McCants and Redick faced off while McCants was at UNC, so there’s some history here.

McCants earned a reputation for being eccentric and difficult both at UNC and in the NBA, which makes this pretty far-fetched: He announced the Lakers’ signing of Redick two months ago, while LA was still playing and before they fired coach Darvin Ham.

Calling up LeBron James Jr. to be drafted by the Lakers? Easy as pie. Calling up Redick before anyone even thought about it?

Pretty impressive, even for the occasionally odd McCant.
