Dallas-Fort Worth under heat advisory for 10th consecutive day

Dangerous heat and humidity has lingered in North Texas for more than a week with little to no reprieve.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a heat advisory (or more serious excessive heat warning) for parts of the region for at least a portion of each day since June 23. Tuesday marks the 10th consecutive day of notably hot weather.

Dallas-Fort Worth is under a heat advisory through 7 p.m. Tuesday while areas east and southeast of the metroplex are under an excessive heat warning. Heat-related illnesses are more likely to occur in these circumstances.

What is the heat index and why does it matter in Dallas-Fort Worth as summer approaches?

A heat advisory was issued for areas where the heat index — or “feels like” temperature — is expected to rise to between 105 and 109 while locations under the excessive heat warning will experience a heat index between 110 to 112, according to the weather service.

High temperatures in Dallas will be in the low 100s through at least Thursday with lows in the low 80s, according to the KXAS-TV (NBC5) forecast. (The July 4th holiday will be a hot one.)

A cold front and low chances of storms should cause a slight dip in temperatures in Dallas this weekend with highs still in the 90s.

Multiple days in the past week have had low temperatures break daily records at DFW Airport, including Monday’s low of 83, the highest minimum temperature for July 1 since 1998 when the low was 82.
