Authorities in northern Arizona are searching for a missing woman and have arrested her husband, according to the Flagstaff Police Department.

Kelly Paduchowski, 45, was reported missing Sunday night after failing to return home from a run and swim. Her husband, Daniel Paduchowski, 58, was arrested on aggravated assault charges, though police have not provided specific details about the allegations against him.

The context

Arizona has one of the highest percentages of missing people in the United States, according to data from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

According to NamUS, there are currently 1,077 people missing in the Grand Canyon State. At any given time, up to 100,000 people can be reported missing in the United States, and approximately 600,000 are reported missing each year.

Kelly Paduchowski left her home around 1:30 p.m. Sunday for what was supposed to be a routine run and swim, according to local media.

When her family had not heard from her by 7:30 p.m., they reported her missing. Flagstaff police said in a Facebook post: “Since that time, officers with the Flagstaff Police Department have coordinated efforts to find and locate Kelly.”

What we know

Kelly’s car, a white Mazda CX-5, was reportedly found on the Campbell Mesa Trail. She is described as being 5’8″, 130 lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing black shorts, a grey T-shirt and white running shoes, according to local media.

Flagstaff police announced the arrest of Paduchowski’s husband, Daniel Paduchowski, in a statement shared on Facebook. The statement read: “During the course of the investigation, the Flagstaff Police Department interviewed family members, witnesses, and processed evidence which resulted in the arrest of Kelly’s husband, Daniel Paduchowski, 58, of Flagstaff for aggravated assault.”

The search for Kelly Paduchowski has been a coordinated effort between the Flagstaff Police Department and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office.
