Accident on Route 1 bypass in Delco leaves 3 dead, authorities say – NBC10 Philadelphia

Three people were killed in a crash involving a garbage truck and a community transport van Tuesday morning on a busy Delaware County highway during rush hour, police said.

A Delaware County official told NBC10 the crash happened on the Route 1 bypass in Upper Providence Township. The road between Routes 252 and 352 was closed to traffic due to the incident at approximately 8:20 a.m., officials said.

Three people died in the crash, the official said, though they have not yet released further details about the victims or said whether there were any other people injured in the accident.

One of the vehicles appeared to be burned as SkyForce10 flew overhead.

Authorities have not yet said when the incident occurred or what may have caused the crash, but an investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., the northbound lanes were opened, but the southbound lanes remained closed.
