Two major Colorado Springs highways are experiencing lane closures.

South Academy Boulevard

Construction on the improvement project continues on South Academy Boulevard next week, while a portion of Airport Road is now open after emergency repairs.

The city of Colorado Springs said Friday that East Airport Road is now open following a closure for sinkhole repairs. West of South Academy Boulevard, Airport Road remains closed at the intersection with detours for businesses along the road.

On Sunday, a nearby portion of South Academy will transition to outside lanes only to allow for construction in the median and repaving of the inside lanes. The road is currently one lane between Bijou Street and Airport Road, and will open to two northbound lanes at Pikes Peak Avenue.

Jet Wing Drive also remains closed at South Academy Boulevard.

Another portion of South Academy between Interstate 25 and Fountain Creek will see a northbound lane shift toward downtown by 2025.

Bradley Road, which runs under South Academy, will be reduced to an alternating lane of traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The closure will be for bridge construction.

Interstate 25

I-25 will see its own brief construction closure on Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to repair a guardrail between South Academy Boulevard and Mesa Ridge Parkway, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The repair will require the closure of the right southbound lane.
