Suspect dies after being chased by man he allegedly robbed at gunpoint in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A suspect who allegedly robbed another man at a Los Angeles gas station was killed in a crash after the victim chased him.

Initial reports later confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department indicate that a 21-year-old man was at a gas station in the city’s West Adams neighborhood on Saturday night when he was approached and robbed by a group of armed men.

The alleged suspects then fled the scene in a white sedan and the victim pursued them in a Mercedes-Benz SUV.

At some point during the chase, the man rammed his SUV into the suspects’ sedan, causing it to lose control and crash into a light pole, according to video of the scene obtained by KTLA from Nexstar.

One of the suspects, reportedly the driver of the sedan, died in the collision.

After the crash, the other suspects were able to escape the wreckage and opened fire on the 21-year-old before fleeing. At least one of them was found hiding in a nearby backyard by a K9 unit and was taken into custody, preliminary information indicates.

The robbery victim remained at the scene after the accident and cooperated with police; It is unknown if he was injured or what had been initially stolen from him.

The incident is now being investigated as a homicide, the LAPD said, but it is unclear if the original robbery victim was in custody.
