RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Amid a severe thunderstorm warning for some central North Carolina counties on Sunday, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for several areas, including part of Wake County.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 5:40 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for southeastern Person County, southern Vance County, Granville County,
North central Wake County and northwestern Franklin County.

When the warning was issued, a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles southwest of Oxford, moving southeast at 20 mph.

WAKE COUNTY NEWS

Forecasters said storm hazards included wind gusts of 60 mph.

“Damage to roofs, siding and trees is expected,” the National Weather Service warned.

Cities affected by the storm include Henderson, Oxford, Creedmoor, Wake Forest, Butner, Franklinton, Kittrell, Youngsville, Stem and Gillburg.
