Tennessee boy dies in crash on I-55 in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A Tennessee toddler was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in southern Jefferson County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report, the crash occurred at 4:40 a.m. on northbound Interstate 55 at mile marker 168.4.


The highway patrol says a 2024 Kia ​​Forte struck an object or vehicle on the road before going off the road and hitting a tree.

There were four people in the Forte: a 32-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman and two children, ages 1 and 3. All lived in Memphis, Tennessee, according to the highway patrol.

The 3-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 5:30 a.m.

All other occupants of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals. The passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The 32-year-old man was not wearing a seat belt.
