A family friend of Ellis Cox has said the community is “totally shocked” by the murder of the “well-mannered” 19-year-old.

Police were called to Liver Industrial Estate, near Taskers, shortly after 11.10pm on Sunday, June 23 following a report from paramedics who were treating a man at the scene.

When officers arrived, they discovered that the man, identified yesterday as Ellis Cox, a former student at Archbishop Beck Catholic School, had been shot. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

In Walton Vale, near where Ellis lived with his family on Grace Road, people remain deeply distressed by what happened.

One mother, a long-time Walton resident who knows the Cox family personally, told the ECHO: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. None of the family members have ever been in trouble. They’re not like that. Everything the world around here “is devastated by what happened.”

He added: “They are a lovely family with very well-behaved children. I met their mother when we were little.”
